Week of October 30th-November 3rd

Teachers thank you for your hard work and dedication to our Scholars!  We appreciate everything you do from lesson planning, providing engaging lessons, collaborating with your colleagues, and doing what is BEST for our Scholars!!!  We see and recognize you!  Thank you!!!

Behavior Management

Check out these "Ten Variables that Affect Compliance" document on Behavior Management strategies: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_ScjtwIQ8ypMWdJZDBBdXJFeDA

Which of these ideas are you planning on implementing next week?
The first 5 staff to email Lisa and Alison a response will earn a TREASURE CARD!

Sending a student out of your class is not always the best option.

Remember the following:
- Follow your classroom management plan
- Send the child to a buddy room with mastery work that is current content being taught in class
- Every time you send a child out they are missing valuable instructional time

- If after exhausting the options above, please send the child to the office with mastery class work, a referral and make contact with the parent/guardian.

Academic Discourse

So, you've found the questions you want to ask, but you don't know how to set up those sentence frames for the students....
Try some of these

Send Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Guernsey an email with a photo of your kids having Academic Conversations and earn a TREASURE CARD!!!

All teams should have received their group poster for the November Staff Meeting presentation. Looking forward to learning from one another.

Immersion
Pages 13-18

Your ability to completely give yourself up to the moment and fully "be" with your students is an awesome and unmistakably powerful technique.  Students can feel it when you are truly present!!!  It's incredibly frustrating to interact with a person who is not immersed and fully invested in that interaction.  A lack of immersion in the present sends a clear, although unspoken, message that this moment is somehow less important and not significant enough to be worth undivided attention.

Dave Burgess stated that he could walk by a classroom and tell after a couple of minutes whether the teacher is a lifeguard or a swimmer.  Are you a lifeguard or a swimmer?

Collaboration

Great schools have talented professionals who find the very best ways to work together in order to get results.  It doesn’t need to be more complicated than that. Every staff needs to create collaborative commitments that are dedicated to achieving results through action in a professional manner.

Here is a video on collaboration from the No Excuses Webpage

Passion
Pages 3-12

"Only passions, great passions, can elevate the soul to great things." - Denis Diderot

This chapter explains how to feel passionate, even if the subject you're teaching isn't all that exciting to you. Here is the secret: We are not passionate about everything we teach. It's OK! Dave Burgess breaks down passion into three distinct categories: Content Passion, Professional Passion, and Personal Passion.  By consciously focusing on identifying, developing, and using all three of these categories, it is absolutely possible to become a powerfully passionate teacher every day of the school year!  What are you passionate about?
