Focus on Engaging Students in Your Lessons

How do you elicit responses from students in class?

Check out this list and links of ideas:

1. Popsicle sticks with student names to call on students randomly
2. Random Name Picker
3. Class Cards - iPad App to select and track student participation
4. Deck of cards passed out at the beginning of the period.
5. Numbered seats with coordinating numbers in a bucket.

Book Study

Remember to complete your Flipgrid!

Crystal Middle School's Pineapple Chart is COMING SOON!

 What is a Pineapple Chart?

The pineapple symbolizes "Welcome". Using this chart,
you can welcome people into your classroom to observe
and request lessons you'd like to see.

These Visits ARE:

INFORMAL
VOLUNTARY
EVERYDAY LESSONS
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
NOT OBSERVATIONS

Stop by Mrs. Guernsey's office next week to sign up to have staff come observe or to look for that specific lesson strategy that you've been wanting to find out more about.

Nicole Williams, Counselor

Nickname: No nicknames

High school:  She went to four different high schools and graduated from Valley High School in Sacramento, CA. She attended Sacramento High in Sacramento, CA, Gardena High in southern California, and Elk Grove High, Elk Grove CA. At each of these schools, she continued to pursue her passion of participating in track and field. She was soooooo good, sometimes the coaches made her run with the boys because the girls were too slow. She played on the Varsity Girls Basketball team and participated in the Black Student Union.  She did not attend many dances or go to sporting events in high school because she started working in 10th grade to help support her family. In 11th and 12th grades, she worked at least two jobs while going to school, running track and field, and preparing for college. She was determined to go to college. She skipped taking the PSAT and instead, took the SATs three times and the ACT one time. She was offered full-rides for track and field at UCLA,  UC Berkeley and CSU, Sacramento and chose to attend CSU, Sacramento.

Career if not a Counselor:   She loves the law so she would be a Criminal Law Attorney. She would fight for the young people who make mistakes as children, but are unreasonably sentenced to life in prison. She recently read a book called Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson that further inspired her to consider law school when she retire.

Would like to be on this game show:  Family Feud

Passion:  She is passionate about a dance called Chicago Style Stepping.  This dance is similar to, and is associated with the Bop, Swing-out and Ballroom and was popularized first in Chicago, Il. She has been doing this particular dance for about seven years and is an unofficial instructor in Sacramento. She also does Ballroom and would like to learn Salsa.
